What Is Pollution?
Look up at the sky. Is it blue and clear? Now look at a creek. Is the water clean? Sometimes they're not. That's because of pollution.
Pollution is dirty or harmful stuff in our air, water, or land. It can make plants, animals, and people sick.
Where does it come from? Cars and trucks puff out smoke. Big factories puff out smoke too. That smoke makes the air dirty.
Trash can cause pollution too. Some people drop cups and bags on the ground. Rain washes the trash into rivers. The rivers carry it out to the ocean.
Sea turtles eat jellyfish. A turtle might think a plastic bag is a jellyfish. It tries to eat the bag, and the bag makes it sick.
Here's the good news. Kids can help! You can pick up trash at the park. You can use the same water bottle again and again. You can walk or ride a bike to go close by.
Every small step helps. Clean air and clean water make a happy home for all of us.
